Motivation - "Mindset is Everything" Stronger Every Day

OVERCOMING SET BACKS!!

 Fitness is just as much about the mental game as it is about physical results. Share your mindset around staying motivated and overcoming tough times.

Overcoming Setbacks: Everyone experiences setbacks in their fitness journeys. 


I have hit several in my almost 2 year journey. From illness, work, family, long hours, and just life in general. I have stalled, stopped, but never gave up!  Watch me Push every day even with the smallest change to get to my goals! Mindset is EVERYTHING!!  Believing we can is the first step! 

1. Embrace the Journey, Not Just the Results

 

Setbacks are part of the process, so it’s important to accept that progress isn’t always linear. Instead of focusing solely on the end goal, focus on the small wins and the progress you’re making, both mentally and physically. Celebrate how far you’ve come, not just how far you have to go.

  • Tip: Start a journal to track your non-scale victories, like improved energy, increased strength, or better sleep.

2. Reassess Your Goals and Expectations

 

Plateaus often happen when your body adjusts to your routine, so it’s a sign that it might be time to reassess your goals or change your approach. You may need to increase intensity or try new workouts to challenge your body in different ways.

  • Tip: Set new short-term goals, like increasing your squat reps or trying a new workout style, and gradually work up to them.

3. Change Up Your Routine

 

Your body is incredibly adaptive, and doing the same workout or following the same diet plan for an extended period can lead to a plateau. Mixing up your workouts (strength training, HIIT, yoga, cycling, etc.) or tweaking your diet can help re-stimulate weight loss.

  • Tip: Try a new form of exercise, add variety to your workouts, or change your meal plan to avoid monotony.

4. Stay Consistent, Even When You Don't See Immediate Results

Consistency is key. Even if the scale isn’t moving, your body is still adapting and changing. Trust that the effort you’re putting in will pay off in the long run.

  • Tip: Stay consistent with your habits and trust the process. Sometimes progress is happening in ways you can’t immediately see.

7. Experiment with Your Nutrition

 Sometimes a plateau happens because your body has adapted to your current diet. Trying something like intermittent fasting, adjusting your macronutrient ratio, or tracking your calorie intake can help reignite fat loss.

  • Tip: Consider meal prepping or tracking your calories to identify areas where you can tweak your diet for better results.

8. Re-evaluate Your Mindset

Sometimes, mental barriers can prevent us from moving forward. Reflect on your relationship with food, exercise, and your body. If you’re feeling negative or frustrated, it could be time to work on shifting your mindset.

  • Tip: Focus on cultivating a growth mindset, where you see challenges as opportunities to grow rather than roadblocks.

9. Stay Focused on Your "Why"

When setbacks and plateaus arise, remind yourself why you started this journey in the first place. Whether it’s to feel more confident, improve your health, or set a positive example for others, reconnecting with your purpose can reignite your motivation.

  • Tip: Write down your “why” and refer to it whenever you feel discouraged. It’ll keep you grounded and focused on the bigger picture.

10. Listen to Your Body and Rest When Needed

 Overtraining can lead to burnout and frustration. If you’re stuck in a plateau, it might be time to take a step back and give your body the rest it needs. Proper recovery, stretching, and sleep are just as important as working hard.

  • Tip: Incorporate rest days into your routine and focus on recovery techniques, like foam rolling or light yoga.

11. Be Kind to Yourself

It’s easy to be your own harshest critic when you’re stuck in a plateau, but you need to practice self-compassion. Everyone hits roadblocks—what matters is how you respond to them. Instead of feeling defeated, use setbacks as an opportunity to learn and grow.

  • Tip: Practice positive self-talk and remind yourself that setbacks are temporary. Treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer to a friend.

12. Track Your Progress Beyond the Scale

It’s tempting to rely solely on the number on the scale, but there are other ways to measure progress that are more reflective of true change.

  • Tip: Take progress photos, track body measurements, and monitor how your clothes fit. Notice improvements in stamina and performance in your workouts.

13. Celebrate Small Wins Along the Way

Sometimes the key to overcoming setbacks is simply celebrating the little victories. Whether you’ve completed a tough workout, eaten a balanced meal, or resisted a craving, it all counts. These moments add up and will eventually lead to bigger accomplishments.

  • Tip: Keep a "win jar" or journal where you write down small victories. Reflecting on them can boost your motivation when things feel tough.
